Any comments that you would like to make about the lab, including troubles you had, things that were interesting, and ways we could make it better.

Part 1

This graph uses the wildcard search feature to find the top ten words following the phrase "Department of". These results are interesting because it shows that "Department of Agriculture" was the most popular during the period of 1900-1960. Today, the most popular is "Department of Health".

This graph uses part-of-speech tags to compare the use of the word link as a noun and verb over time. These results are interesting because it shows a sharp increase of the noun usage of "link" in the 80s and 90s, which can likely be attributed to the birth of the Internet.

Part 2

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

This shows a wordcloud for The Great Gatsby. While most of the words are main characters and common words in the English language, the appearance of the words "night", "eyes", "time", and "car" provide an adequate representation of the book's most important motifs and moments.

This shows a dreamscape for The Great Gatsby, which displays the travel between geographical locations referenced in the book. While many remember that the majority of the book takes place in Long Island, this map shows the importance of other locations such as Chicago, Los Angeles, and various parts of Europe.

The translations service work quite well for translating between Korean and English. It would be useful in practice. There isn't really much difference between the translation services, though I found that Bing translate did a better job.

Part 5

My first experiment detected whether or not I was wearing glasses. I chose this to test out the facial recognition capabilities of the program, and it was able to identify my glasses very well with a low number of training examples.

My second experiment detected whether or not a lighter was on or not. I used more training examples for this project, experimenting with holding the lighter at different distances from the camera. The program was able to detect light very well, and even recognized how I hold the lighter when it was lit compared to when it was unlit.
